Midway through the first half United took a 2-0 lead with goals from Adam Beasley after twenty-four minutes and Steve Ball six minutes later, however, Dickinson pulled one back two minutes later, but there was no change to the score in the first half. For Leeds, Stephen Hill replaced Alex Byrne at Right Half after sixty-four minutes, before the home side hit a purple patch scoring three goals in quick succession in the second half when Rincavage scored in the sixty-seventh minute, Walshaw two minutes later and Reed made it 4-2 in the following minute. Marcus Philpott replaced Gary Kelly at Inside Right after seventy-three minutes. Hightower took over in goal from Scott Cousin after eighty-two minutes. Iso Budimir replaced Adam Beasley at Left Back in the eighty-fifth minute.
